The Stutz 2011 Holiday Exhibition - Friday, November 18, 5-10 p.m.

Skip the mall. Bypass the big-box store. Ditch the web. To pick up those truly special and locally made gifts, shoppers can kick off the holiday shopping season at the Stutz Artists Association's Holiday Exhibition on Nov. 18. With work by approximately 50 artists working in a variety of media, the annual event gives visitors the opportunity to view original art, mingle, enjoy light refreshments and listen to music – all in a single location at the historic Stutz building.
Participating artists include John Bartlow, Faith Blackwell, Kathy Blankenheim, Susan Brewer, Emily Budd, Lydia Burris, Shaun Causey, Andy Chen, Joseph Crone, Leigh Dunnington-Jones, Bonnie Fillenworth, Karen Graeser, Ritch Hanna, Terrie McClatchie, Mallory Marty, Gayle Moore, Carol L Myers, Adam Noel, Tom Potter, Elise Schweitzer, Taylor Anne Smith, Kevin Smola, Martha Vaught, Vicky Shaffer White, and Julia Wickes.
Attendees to the event held each year on the Friday before Thanksgiving also can get a creative start on holiday shopping, with gift possibilities ranging from paintings, metal sculpture and wearable art to jewelry, cards and custom portraits. During the popular event, artists with studios in the Stutz building will display their work in a single space on the second floor of the D building from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. New this year are open studios of approximately 10 artists on the second floor of the D building, near the gallery space.

In addition, 5-inch-by-7-inch one-of-a-kind pieces by many of the artists will be available for $100 each as a fundraiser for VSA Indiana, a nonprofit organization that serves people with disabilities through the arts. Stutz artists are contributing 50 percent of the proceeds from their work for this effort. One of the largest associations of working artists in Indiana, the Stutz Artists Association exists to encourage its member artists and to promote their work. The association operates Stutz Art Space, a nonprofit gallery on the first floor of the Stutz. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, or by appointment. It will be open Nov. 18 with the Unclothed: Exposing the Art Nude exhibition inspired by this year's Spirit and Place Festival theme of "the body." |
