The STUTZARTSPACE Gallery Grand Opening Exhibition, Square One, runs March 7 - March 28, 2008. An opening reception is set for 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. March 7, in conjunction with the Indianapolis Downtown Artists & Dealers Association's (IDADA) monthly First Friday gallery tour. The gallery is open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, or by appointment.
More than 35 artists from the Stutz Artists Association have set aside other projects to create new work for "Square One," the grand opening exhibition at the STUTZARTSPACE Gallery. This is the first show at the new gallery.
All of the artists with studios at the mammoth Stutz Business Center have had the opportunity to participate. There was only one catch: each piece of art had to be created using the same 16-inch-by-16-inch square format.
"It was so much fun to give all the artists an identical panel and see the incredible creativity that emerged," said Karen Land, STUTZARTSPACE Gallery chairwoman. "For this show, we adopted the fixed format as a display of group unity. But in the end, this approach truly emphasized each artist's individuality."
"I like to think of this show as a row of tiny windows into our artistic souls," Land said.
"The exhibition continues to show the diversity of talent and media from our Stutz artists," said Jerry Points, president of the Stutz Artists Association.
Participating artists range from longtime Stutz artist John Ross to new arrivals Ben Glenn and Polina Osherov. Among the others represented are Lynn Andalman, Maren Bell, Peg Brand, Susan D. Brewer, Francie Broadie, Vicki Broadie, Janet Chilton, Vince Davis, Forrest Formsma, Victoria Gillieron, Ardis Harsche, Gayla Hodson, JanettMarie, Dominic Jannazzo, Leigh Dunnington Jones, Jane Knight, Karen Land, Colleen Lauter, Sue Leap, Diane Lyon, Susan Mauck, Carol Myers, Kate Oberreich, Jerry Points, John Reynolds, Ginny Taylor Rosner, Martha Sando, Taylor Smith, Kevin Smola, Rita Spalding, Michael G. Swolsky, Patti Trostle, Jacobina Trump, Martha Vaught, Dina Verplank and Kathryn Yost.
