Painting
Welcome! I’m a contemporary surrealist painter working primarily in oil. My work explores the connections between nature, people, and the quiet, often unseen narratives that exist within both. Blending traditional realism techniques with a modern sensibility, my Transitions series brings together elements of still life and landscape to create dreamlike, symbolic spaces.
Bio
Barbara Peterson earned her B.F.A. with honor at Pratt Institute in New York
City. Working primarily in oil, she explores the connections between nature,
people, and the unseen stories that flow through both. Her surrealistic
Transitions series blends traditional painting techniques with a contemporary
aesthetic, merging elements of still life and landscape.
In 2015, Barbara and her husband, John, relocated from the East Coast to
Indiana. The wide-open skies and farmlands here continue to shape and
inspire her work. Barbara is proud to be a member of the Indiana Artists Club,
a group of over 150 award-winning professional artists across the state. She’s
shown her paintings in juried exhibitions and museum shows throughout the
region.
Since 2019, Barbara has maintained a studio in the historic Stutz building—a
space where imagination, observation, and storytelling come together on
canvas.
