Pete Howard

Photographer

Biography

Pete was introduced to photography early in life by his mother’s father, who was the prototypical family photographer—taking far too long to set things up and still achieving mediocre results. He still has his Leica IIIf system. Pete did the usual yearbook and newspaper pursuits in high school and college, working with borrowed equipment. He bought his first 35mm body and 50mm lens in the mid-70s, but it wasn’t until the late 80s that he graduated to semi-pro and pro gear. Pete also started attending workshops and participating in photo safaris (e.g., lots of winter photography in Yellowstone and Acadia National Parks). Then, in the late 90s he opened a studio/gallery in the Stutz which he still has today.

Statement

I am a spontaneous photographer, capturing the essence of a moment and not investing time and energy in scripting what that moment might be. My passions are patterns and structure, be they natural or manmade. I’m also drawn to unprompted events telling stories about how God’s creatures (human and otherwise) live their daily lives.
